Only enrolled first-year undergraduates from domestic, EU and foreign universities are eligible for the Laidlaw Scholarship UCL 2025. Affiliate students are not permitted to enroll in the program. Regardless of your financial situation, you may apply to the program knowing that students are not required to pay for any of its components. The Laidlaw Foundation graciously provides funding for it, covering (where applicable) the cost of lodging, transportation, and meals. If you are working on a project outside of the UK, you may also apply for extra money to pay for all or most of your travel expenses. Eligibility Criteria
- Applications are open to all first-year undergraduate students enrolled in programs at UCL lasting three years or longer.
- The program will run from Term 2 of your first year to Term 1 of your third year for the majority of students enrolled in three-year programs.
- Only UCL first-year undergraduate students are eligible for the program.
Financial Aid
- In your first and second years as Laidlaw Scholars, you will receive a scholarship payment of £3,000 annually for the summer projects, plus an extra £100 for each day that you attend the six core leadership training days, for a total of £600.

Selection Process
Phases of Application Selection
- Step 1: Evaluation by the Supervisor: The project manager will assess your application. They will be checking to determine if you satisfy the Essential Criteria and have a good understanding of the project.
- Phase Two: Interview: Email invitations to a brief online interview will be sent to those who made the shortlist.
- Step 3: Panel of Judges: A Judging Panel will assess the applications of the shortlisted candidates in March 2025. The selection of Laidlaw scholars will be made by the Panel. Up to 30 Laidlaw scholarships are offered annually.
