High school seniors and their schools are recognized for their achievements in academics, athletics, community service, healthy lifestyles, and sportsmanship via the HMSA Kaimana Awards & Scholarship Program. Students who excel in their communities via volunteer work in addition to academics and athletics are recognized with the HMSA Kaimana Awards & Scholarship Program. Scholarship recipients can use their funds to cover tuition, books, computers, room & board, and other costs associated with their higher education. About HMSA Kaimana Awards and Scholarship
Since 2005, Hawaii children and their schools have benefited from the HMSA Kaimana Awards and Scholarship. Students from all schools are eligible to apply for scholarships. Applications for the Hawaii Medical Service Association’s (HMSA) Kaimana Awards & Scholarship Program are now being accepted from high school graduates in Hawaii. So far, the 20th anniversary of the Kaimana Honors & Scholarship Program has seen the awarding of 171 school honors and 341 student scholarships. By 2025, HMSA would have spent $1.62 million on grants and scholarships for students and schools in the Kaimana class. Scholarships worth $5,000 will be given out by HMSA to 20 students who succeed in community service, athletics, and academics.

Objective of HMSA Kaimana Awards and Scholarship
The primary objective of HMSA Kaimana Awards and Scholarship is to provide good opportunities and financial assistance to the High school kids. Students who succeed in academics, athletics, and community service will be eligible to win HMSA scholarships, each worth $5,000. Local business and community leaders form a committee to choose the beneficiaries of the Kaimana Scholarship. The Big Island Interscholastic Federation, the Interscholastic League of Honolulu, the Kauai Interscholastic Federation, the Maui Interscholastic League, and the Oahu Interscholastic Association give scholarships to students from all of their schools. This scholarship will help the students to achieve their goals and they can pursue their higher education very easily.
Eligibility criteria
- Graduate from a high school in Hawaii in 2025 with a GPA of 2.75 or above, as confirmed by a faculty member’s official or unofficial transcript.
- have played a sport during one or more of their high school years that is league-sanctioned by the Hawaii High School Athletic Association.
- Participate in extracurricular activities and community service initiatives.
- Compose an essay and a personal statement.
- Send in two recommendation letters from coaches, mentors, or school officials.

- A $5,000 scholarship and HMSA will award them to those who demonstrate excellence in academics, athletics, and community service.

Number of scholarships
- In celebration of 20 years of the program, HMSA will award 20 scholarships (previously 15) worth $5,000 each.

Selection process
- The Kaimana Scholarship awardees are chosen by a group of community and business leaders in the area.
- In April 2025, recipients will get an email notification. Their scholarships can be used to cover accommodation and board, books, computers, and tuition for further study.
