The Heinrich Boll Foundation is a member of the global Green political movement, which emerged in opposition to the conventional socialist, liberal, and conservative political ideologies. We cooperate closely with 16 state-level Böll Foundations in each of Germany’s federal states and support talented, socially conscious undergraduate and graduate students both domestically and overseas. Every year, about 1,500 undergraduate, graduate, and PhD students enrolled in universities, universities of applied sciences or universities of the arts receive scholarships from this foundation. These students are from all different nations and specialties.

The main objective of this scholarship is to provide scholarships to about 1,500 undergraduate, graduate, and PhD students annually from all fields and nationalities who are enrolled in German higher education institutions. The scholarship is given out on the basis of academic achievement and proven social and political involvement and it is available to both German and international students. Selection Process
Step 1 – Written application materials must be submitted through the online portal www.boell.de/scholarships, together with a personal statement on your social commitment and an expert reference from a university professor or in the case of new students, or teachers. The Heinrich Foundation’s two employees from the Studienwerk and another division determine whether to forward the application on to the next round.
Step 2 – A phone interview or online interview with a liaison lecturer, often conducted at the liaison lecturer’s home in Germany.
Step 3 – Digital interview with 3 to 4 members of the selection committee, including 1 or 2 outside participants, a scholarship recipient, and a Studienwerk employee.
